MARKET TOURS WITH TURNSTILE TOUR GROUP
Essex Street Market tasting tours, led by the experts at Turnstile Tours,
delves into the evolution of pushcart peddling to New York City's first indoor markets in the post-WWII era.
You'll hear directly from small business owners both new and old, and get the full scoop on
what it's like to run a family operation in NYC's oldest public market.
MEET THE ESSEX STREET MARKET VENDORS
Many of the small businesses at Essex Street Market are owner-operated,
meaning that the person wrapping up your fish or weighing your lemons is also the business owner.
Fathers and sons work alongside mothers, daughters, and cousins – so you can befriend your butcher
and see who's cooking up your lunch.
TALK&TASTE: EVENINGS AT THE ESSEX STREET MARKET
We gather at the Market after-hours to feature a panel discussion on a particular food-related topic. Past talks have included the history of public markets, female food entrepreneurs, and combating food waste. Check howellsac.com. These events are free and open to the public, and are always paired with a tasty food or beverage sampling.
Essex Street Market vendors are proud and excited to show off their products,
so we host monthly tastings for you to learn how they're all produced. Past events have included
coffee cupping experiences, specialty olive oil tastings, and pie-and-cheese pairings.
ESSEX CROSSING, COMING FALL 2018
In 2018, Essex Street Market will move to a new home that lies at the cornerstone of the the Essex Crossing
development project, a multi-use development project that will transform the Lower East Side with 1.9 million square feet of residential, commercial and community space over the next decade. This larger, more modern space will welcome existing vendors as well as invite a collection of new vendors and restaurants to join the Essex Street Market family.
