Public Space Management
The Partnership helps our community thrive by creating a safe, clean, and welcoming public spaces. We partner with city agencies on community development and public realm programs while investing in horticulture, public art, events, and more!
Horticulture
We design and maintain a variety of seasonal plantings in nearly 100 planters throughout the district. Not only are the planters beautiful, they also help calm traffic and protect pedestrians pedestrians from vehicles.
We proudly partner with The Horticultural Society of New York, a nonprofit that provides paid work and training opportunities to New Yorkers looking to strengthen their employment skills and move forward with meaningful careers in greening our city.

The 23 planters feature switchgrass, yarrow, nepeta, salvia, and other native plants that provide a home for birds, bees, and butterflies.
Public Art & Neighborhood Branding
The Lower East Side’s vibrant street art differentiates our neighborhood from the others—demonstrating our diverse and creative community. We work with local artists to install murals that beautify our walls and help deter unwanted graffiti. We also create a sense of place through neighborhood-branded pole banners, wayfinding signs, and more.
100 Gates Project
The Partnership incubated the 100 Gates Project, connecting artists with merchants to create original murals on 250 roll-down security gates. The project brought beautiful neighborhood art to visitors and residents while garnering national attention.

Events & Activation
We boost foot traffic to our merchants through the Open Streets program, plaza maintenance and street events.
Trick or Streets
In October 2024, Essex Market and the Lower East Side Partnership hosted the neighborhood's largest family-friendly Halloween celebration.
The free Trick-or-Streets event transformed Broome Street into a festive space where Essex Market vendors distributed candy from Economy Candy, FAB NYC hosted mask-making, The Hort offered take-home pumpkins, and live music entertained the crowd.
Pickle day
From 2000 to 2019, the Lower East Side Partnership hosted Pickle Day. Paying homage to Orchard Street’s historic pushcarts and pickle briners—the three-block festival showcased pickle-themed dishes, fashion, and even a brine dunk tank! The event brought thousands of visitors, supporting our local restaurants and retail merchants.
