Lower East Side Partnership helps support programming that make Essex Market a welcoming gathering place. In collaboration with Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space and the Immigrant Artist Biennial, the recent fall edition of the Talk & Taste series, A Pinch of Us, brought community together in Essex Kitchen.
On October 22, Lower East Side Partnership and Essex Market partnered with the Immigrant Artist Biennial, Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space, and multidisciplinary artist LuLu Meng, to present the fall edition of our Talk & Taste series: A Pinch of Us. Rooted in the Lunar New Year traditions of Meng’s Taiwanese family, Pinch of Us treats the dumpling as a symbol of prosperity and care, and centers the collective labor of making it together.
Artists Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya and Rujuta Rao joined LuLu to share their own culinary traditions, each with its own folding techniques, flavors, and histories. Participants made a Goan vegetarian Patoleo and a Thai Miang Kham in vegetarian and pescatarian versions, and used the time around the table to share in community with friends and strangers alike.
We are especially grateful for our special collaborators, and to our wonderful guests for sharing the Essex Kitchen.
